I am currently a student at West Chester University pursuing a degree in Middle Grades (4-8) Education. My goal as a teacher is to not only inspire but empower the students of our future. I believe in embracing the individuality of each child and adapting my teaching methods so that they can strive in the best possible environment! Each child is unique and special in their own way, and I hope to encompass that in every classroom.

Orthographic Knowledge, Language, & Literacy Development at West Chester University

In this graduate level course, I learned how to assess student’s orthographic knowledge, detect where to begin instruction based on student performance, and implement various appropriate instruction methods. This course dove deep into the process of teaching and understanding phonemic awareness, morphology, and developing differentiated vocabulary instruction in the classroom.

In this course I was able to have time in the field in an urban school district. The main purpose of this study was to bring into the light the importance of building long-lasting relationships with the students in a classroom to get the most out of their learning experience. My mentor for this study was Associate Professor at WCU, Kathleen Riley. In this, I attended workshops and lectures regarding critical and diverse literacy and celebrating the power of student diversity in a classroom.

Responsibilities include carrying out the duties of a classroom teacher in respect to classroom management, teaching curriculum, and following provided lesson plans while the primary educator is out. I developed and carried out a daily routine as well as engaged them in practices of time management, independence, and responsibility.
